Cerebrex heart disease:

What is Celebrex?

Celebrex is a type of drug that is used as a painkiller and is often prescribed to treat patients suffering from arthritis. There is a protein called COX-2 that causes inflammation in arthritis. This drug blocks the protein. This is found very effective and most prescribed painkiller drug for treating arthritis.

Celebrex and heart disease:

Clinical studies were conducted to find the effects of celebrex drug on other parts of the body. They found that
use of celebrex increases the risk of heart disease. Different studies were indicated and the purpose of the study was to find out the link between celebrex and heart disease. This study found increased risk towards heart disease. The national institute of cancer also researched and found that patients taking 400 mgs of celebrex were 2.5 times more likely to from cardiovascular risk and those taking 800 milligrams were at a 3.4 times greater risk. Use of celebrex was found to double the cardiovascular risk.

What can celebrex do to risk an heart attack?

Celebrex drug is found to very effective in reducing the inflammation in arthritis. Celebrex blocks the COX-2 protein that causes inflammation in arthritis. This is usually known as non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs contain both COX-2 and COX-1enzymes which have indicated some gastrointestinal side effects. Intake of celebrex effects Cox-2 which can create an imbalance that promotes blood clotting and blood vessel constriction. Cox-1 makes thromboxane A2 that promotes blood vessel constriction and blood cells become sticky known as platelets. COX-2 prevents platelets from clumping and promotes blood vessel dilation due to the presence of prostacyclin. Research indicates that prostacyclin leads to bad effects of thromboxane A2 that increases the cardiovascular risk. This means that only COX-2 gets blocked and COX-1 remains unblocked thereby increasing the risk towards heart disease.

This is a fact:

Heart patients usually take aspirin. Sometimes there may be inflammation in coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart, then aspirin with COX-2 can be a better option. Although Celebrex has risk towards heart disease, it still remains in the market. FDA has now stated to put warning safety labels of COX-2 risk to heart disease. That will help the medical experts as well as patients to identify the risk factor of presence of COX-2 in any drugs to be prescribed.
